Economic Growth Portfolio Overview The Feed the Future portfolio in Rwanda focuses on improving the country's agricultural sector, with a primary goal of increasing economic growth and reducing poverty.

Abstract
The portfolio consists of 10 active projects, with 5 projects set to conclude by December 2016. Additionally, 11 new projects are being designed, with 5 projects scheduled to begin by September 2015. The estimated total cost of the 11 new activities is $106.7 million over the next 6 years. The projects are designed to address various aspects of the agricultural sector, including production, processing, and marketing. Rwanda Dairy Competitiveness Project The Rwanda Dairy Competitiveness Project is a $15.0 million initiative that aims to improve the competitiveness of the dairy sector in Rwanda. The project will run from 2014 to 2019 and is expected to increase the country's dairy production and exports. PSAG The PSAG project is a $24.6 million initiative that aims to improve the agricultural sector's productivity and competitiveness. The project will run from 2014 to 2019 and is expected to increase the country's agricultural production and exports. Trade Infrastructure Project The Trade Infrastructure Project is a $5.7 million initiative that aims to improve the country's trade infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and markets. The project will run from 2014 to 2017 and is expected to increase the country's trade volumes and trade competitiveness. USDA Statistics The USDA Statistics project is a $1.0 million initiative that aims to improve the country's agricultural statistics and data collection. The project will run from 2015 to 2017 and is expected to provide accurate and reliable data on the country's agricultural sector. Feeder Roads The Feeder Roads project is a $50.0 million initiative that aims to improve the country's feeder roads and transportation infrastructure. The project will run from 2015 to 2021 and is expected to increase the country's agricultural production and trade volumes. Ending Projects by December 2016 The following projects are set to conclude by December 2016: * Fertilizer Privatization Project: $7.4 million * PYRAMID: $1.5 million * Improved Livelihood Project: $13.3 million * LWH: $14.0 million * Africa Lead: $750,000 Current Projects The following projects are currently ongoing: * Harbort Plus: $3.4 million * Borlaug Higher Education for Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD): $3.5 million * Climate Services for Agriculture Activity: $6.0 million * Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato Activity: $4.0 million * Marketplace for Nutritious Food: $4.7 million Future Projects The following projects are being designed and will start by September 2015: * Integrated Nutrition and Agriculture Activity: $35.0 million * Farm-to-Market: Technology, Inclusion, Microfinance, and Engagement: $20.0 million * Rwanda Increased Protein for Dietary Diversity: $13.0 million * Great Lakes Coffee Policy Research Initiative: $500,000 * Access to Finance Rwanda (AFR): $3.0 million Planned for Future Design The following project is planned for future design: * Research and Extension Strengthening Activity: $15.0 million Assessment Plan The following assessments are planned: * Livestock Market: To assess the dynamics of the animal foods industry in Rwanda. * Climate Smart/Sustainable Agriculture: To assess agriculture practices in the production of key food crops. * Institutional Research and Extension: To map the institutional framework of public, private, and private organizations engaged in agricultural development. * Pathways of Integrating Agriculture and Nutrition: To identify opportunities to address malnutrition through nutrition-sensitive agriculture. * Gender: To assess gender imbalance in agriculture and identify opportunities to mainstream gender in the Feed the Future portfolio. Focus Value Chains The Feed the Future portfolio currently focuses on the following value chains: * Maize * Beans * Dairy The portfolio is exploring expanding to the following value chains: * Potato * Sweet potato * Fruits and vegetables * Livestock * Other nutritious crops as identified.
