Abstract
These diseases include lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, three soil-transmitted helminths (roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm), and trachoma. The project aims to contribute to the global goal of reducing the burden of these targeted NTDs so that they are no longer a public health problem. The ENVISION project is implemented by RTI International, in partnership with several organizations, including CBM International, The Carter Center, Fred Hollows Foundation, Helen Keller International, IMA World Health, Light for the World, Sightsavers, and World Vision. The project's period of performance is from September 30, 2011, through September 30, 2019. The project's goal is to accelerate progress toward the 2020 control and elimination goals for the targeted NTDs. The ENVISION project focuses on three main areas: increasing mass drug administration (MDA) coverage among at-risk populations in endemic communities, improving the evidence base for action to control and eliminate targeted NTDs, and strengthening the environment for implementation of national and integrated NTD control and elimination programs. The project also provides technical assistance and capacity strengthening to national NTD programs, as well as support for operational research and global technical and policy leadership. The project's impact is evident in the progress made toward the control and elimination of the targeted NTDs. For example, the lymphatic filariasis program has shown significant improvements in program performance, with a 95% reduction in the number of districts with insufficient MDA coverage. The trachoma program has also made significant progress, with a 90% reduction in the number of districts with insufficient MDA coverage. The onchocerciasis program has also shown significant improvements, with a 75% reduction in the number of districts with insufficient MDA coverage. The ENVISION project has also made significant contributions to the global NTD control and elimination effort. The project has supported the development of national NTD control and elimination plans, as well as the establishment of NTD control and elimination programs in several countries. The project has also provided technical assistance and capacity strengthening to national NTD programs, as well as support for operational research and global technical and policy leadership. The ENVISION project's results framework is designed to track progress toward the project's goals and objectives. The framework includes several key indicators, including the number of districts with insufficient MDA coverage, the number of districts with sufficient MDA coverage, and the number of countries with national NTD control and elimination plans in place. The project's progress toward these indicators is tracked through regular monitoring and evaluation activities. The ENVISION project has made significant progress toward its goals and objectives, and has contributed significantly to the global NTD control and elimination effort. The project's results framework provides a clear picture of the project's progress and achievements, and will continue to be used to track progress toward the project's goals and objectives.
