Abstract
The program aims to strengthen the management capacities of cooperative leaders, enabling them to contribute to the development of their businesses and fortify the cooperative movement in Peru. The program, initially known as Escuela de Dirigentes, was launched in 2003 as a capacity-building initiative focused on competencies. It was designed to enhance the leadership skills of coffee and cacao cooperative leaders, promoting sustainability and gender equity. However, the program's organizers recognized that the need for training was not limited to their member cooperatives, leading to the expansion of the program to cover a broader national scope. The Escuela de Líderes Cooperativistas Agrarios is a comprehensive program that addresses the critical roles of cooperative leaders in the development of their organizations. These leaders are responsible for representing the cooperative, organizing and planning its activities, controlling its technical and administrative progress, and ensuring compliance with agreements and statutes. They also play a key role in guiding the cooperative's internal development and its relationships with the community and markets. The program's development was made possible through the support of SOS FAIM, the DGCD of Belgium, and USAID's Program of Alternative Development in Peru. The Central Café y Cacao del Perú also expresses gratitude to its member cooperatives, as well as the cooperative leaders, administrators, and technicians who contributed to the program's design and implementation. The program's first group of graduates provided valuable feedback and insights, helping to refine the program's concepts and make them more relevant to the realities of cooperative management in Peru. The Escuela de Líderes Cooperativistas Agrarios is a significant initiative that aims to strengthen the cooperative movement in Peru by enhancing the leadership skills of cooperative leaders. By promoting sustainability, gender equity, and effective management practices, the program seeks to contribute to the development of the country's coffee and cacao sector.
