Abstract
The initiative aims to provide health promotion, health management, and rehabilitation services to patients, primarily those from the marginalized sector. The clinic will be managed by a nurse and will operate within the scope of practice defined by the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines. The nurse-led clinic model has been proven effective in improving health outcomes, particularly in managing chronic conditions such as heart failure. Studies have shown that nurse-led clinics can provide an effective alternative to traditional healthcare delivery, with reduced waiting times and increased consultation times. The model also allows nurses to have their own caseloads, enabling them to provide personalized care to patients. However, establishing a nurse-led clinic in the Philippines comes with its own set of challenges. The country's healthcare system is heavily centered on a curative approach, with a strong emphasis on treatment rather than prevention. Additionally, the services that can be legally rendered by nurses are limited, and doctors often have a monopoly on patients. Furthermore, the country's healthcare financing system relies heavily on out-of-pocket spending, which can be a significant burden for low-income households. The Philippine healthcare system also faces a shortage of healthcare professionals, with around 200,000 unemployed nurses as of October 2014. This has led to a situation where some employed nurses are working without pay or below the minimum wage. The government has been petitioned to increase the wages of nurses and find solutions to this dire situation. In terms of health financing, the Philippines relies heavily on out-of-pocket spending, which is a significant burden for low-income households. The country's healthcare system also has a shortage of healthcare professionals, with around 200,000 unemployed nurses as of October 2014. This has led to a situation where some employed nurses are working without pay or below the minimum wage. The nurse-led clinic model can help address some of these challenges by providing accessible and affordable healthcare services to patients. The clinic can also help to promote health education and awareness, particularly among marginalized communities. However, establishing a nurse-led clinic in the Philippines requires careful planning and execution, including securing funding and addressing the regulatory and operational challenges.
