Abstract
The assessment is based on parameters defined in the Government of India guidelines and aims to capture the current situation and capacity of the facility to respond to the government's priority to improve neonatal health. The assessment tool consists of several sections, including facility identification and infrastructure, general information, and specific questions related to obstetric and newborn care services. The tool is designed to be completed by the facility officer in charge and requires information on the facility's infrastructure, including the availability of rooms for labor, delivery, postpartum/natal ward, operation theater, and neonatal care unit. The assessment also inquires about the availability of inpatient beds, postpartum/postnatal ward beds, delivery tables, and beds dedicated to newborn care. Additionally, the tool asks about the availability of designated areas for various functional areas, such as breastfeeding, hand washing, and laundry. The assessment also evaluates the facility's access to basic amenities, including electricity, water, and sanitation. The tool asks about the primary source of electricity, the availability of a backup generator, and the frequency of power outages. Similarly, the assessment inquires about the availability of safe water for infection prevention, patient, and staff use. The assessment tool is designed to provide immediate feedback to the facility on its current situation and capacity to respond to the government's priority to improve neonatal health. The findings of the assessment will help identify bottlenecks in the functioning of the health unit and provide recommendations to overcome them. The assessment is focused on obstetric and newborn care services, and the tool is designed to be completed by the facility officer in charge. The assessment is based on parameters defined in the Government of India guidelines and aims to capture the current situation and capacity of the facility to respond to the government's priority to improve neonatal health. The assessment tool is a critical component of the facility readiness assessment for newborn care services, and its findings will inform the development of strategies to improve the capacity and functioning of health facilities involved in providing delivery and newborn care services. The assessment will help identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations to overcome bottlenecks in the functioning of the health unit. The assessment tool is designed to be completed by the facility officer in charge, and the information collected will be used to evaluate the facility's capacity and functioning in providing delivery and newborn care services. The assessment will provide a comprehensive picture of the facility's readiness to provide newborn care services and identify areas for improvement.
