Abstract
The Honduran FP Association (ASHONPLAFA) will head implementation of the project, which focuses on community-based distribution of contraceptives and the performance of voluntary sterilizations. Some 1,060 community posts for distributing contraceptives will be maintained; activities of these posts, which are expected to create 45,500 new active users by the end of 1984 and to increase the number by 10% per year afterwards, will be supported by the provision of 50 training courses to distributors and two training courses to promoters. In addition, 13 Ministry of Health (MOH) hospitals will be supported by the Association for Voluntary Sterilization (AVS), the remainder by A.I.D. A total of 7,000 female and 140 male sterilizations (a 17% increase over 1983 totals) are expected, 3,570 of the in facilities financed under the project. Also participating in the project, which is expected to increase contraceptive prevalence beyond a baseline of 27%, will be the Center for Disease Control, Development Associates, Inc., Johns Hopkins Population Communication Services, Pathfinder, Family Health International, and the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
