Abstract
Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (RFS). The program is supported by Root Capital, Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP), and Ezrah Charitable Trust. PSSC aims to provide technical assistance and training to complement Root Capital's lending services in support of agricultural small- and growing-businesses (SGBs). PSSC has three objectives: ensuring business continuity and resilience through adapted advisory services, addressing enterprise cash flow constraints through a flexible grant mechanism, and providing debt relief to facilitate patient terms, interest rate relief, and debt forgiveness. The program focuses on reaching SGBs in various countries, including Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Madagascar. In the July through September 2023 reporting period, PSSC reached 27 SGBs with Business Management Advisory (BMA) services, including 13 in Ghana, three in Honduras, one in Nicaragua, and 10 in Peru. Women accounted for 35 percent of all technical advisory service participants, with 215 women participating out of a total of 622 participants. Root Capital provided 55.5 days of advisory services to 27 SGBs in FY23 Q4, with a focus on BMA services, particularly accounting and taxation. The program has reached a total of 75 enterprises across all interventions and objectives, with some receiving more than one intervention. Fifty-seven enterprises have received USAID-supported technical advisory services, 20 enterprises received a KDP-supported COVID-19 Resilience Grant, and four enterprises have received support via the Debt Relief Fund. The program has achieved several key results, including a 75 percent increase in financial fundamentals scores among participating SGBs, a 27 percent increase in household income among program participants, and a 27 percent increase in the value of annual sales of producers and firms receiving USG assistance. The program has also provided debt relief to enterprises, with a total of $161,387 in debt relief funds utilized during the life of the project. PSSC has a strong focus on gender equity, with women accounting for 35 percent of all technical advisory service participants. The program has also made significant progress in reaching SGBs in various countries, with a total of 75 enterprises reached across all interventions and objectives.
