Abstract
The program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by DAI Global, LLC, in partnership with Pathfinder International, SNV, and Khanga Rue Media. The geographic coverage of the program includes Iringa, Mbeya, and Zanzibar districts. The program's methodology is based on positive youth development (PYD) and gender-transformative approaches (GTA), which aim to empower rural Tanzanian youth and connect them to viable business and employment options. Activities under AY highlight the income-generating potential across agricultural and other rural value chains by facilitating access to information, skills, and opportunities to ensure youth success in business start-ups and sustained employment. AY's approach is both market and demand driven, connecting youth with economic opportunities while providing them with life skills, future goal orientation, an entrepreneurial mindset, and basic job-seeking capabilities in skill areas sought by private sector employers. The program also empowers youth to become leaders in their communities by connecting them to opportunities promoting leadership and collaboration with adult leaders. AY prioritizes creating access and knowledge to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services necessary for young people to make healthy life choices. The project applies a Gender Transformative Framework (GTF) in the implementation of AY's approach to youth development. The program's development hypothesis is that "If Tanzanian youth are empowered with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities necessary to succeed in business and employment, they will become vital stakeholders and drivers of change in their communities, leading to improved economic and social outcomes for themselves and their families." The Cross Cutting Core Activities in Project Year 2 include: * Entrepreneurship and Workforce-Readiness Skills of Youth Increased * Leadership and Positive Youth Development Strengthened * Life Skills for Healthy Living and Future Planning Enhanced The Livelihoods Component of the program focuses on entrepreneurship and workforce-readiness skills of youth, with the goal of increasing the number of youth who are employed or self-employed. The Leadership Component aims to strengthen leadership and positive youth development, while the Life Skills Component focuses on enhancing life skills for healthy living and future planning. The program's Monitoring and Evaluation framework is designed to track progress towards the program's objectives and outcomes.
