Abstract
The project aims to improve food consumption and resilience of drought-affected communities in the Northeast and Central Plateau Region. The program's goal is to provide immediate and basic food needs to 5,085 households in the two departments of North East and Central Plateau. The project's interventions include nine cycles of distribution of unconditional and conditional food vouchers to households, each valued at US$60. Eligible households also receive conditional vouchers of the same value after they carry out community work that includes community gabions or rehabilitation of community assets. The program has made significant progress in increasing access to diverse and quality foods that meet the nutritional requirements of vulnerable households. According to the data collected during the post-distribution monitoring (PDM), the distributions allowed participant households to increase their access to quality food by 80% compared to 61.30% within the baseline. The Nutrition Education Agents (NEA) conducted home visits for research and identification of participants, and 382 Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) were trained on nutrition best practices. The data is disaggregated as follows: 134 pregnant women benefited from home visits in January and were sensitized on "Malnutrition and the importance of screening," while 113 pregnant women benefited from home visits in February and were sensitized on "Breastfeeding." Additionally, 135 pregnant women benefited from home visits in March and were sensitized on "Complementary feeding for children 6 to 24 months." The project also conducted cooking demonstrations, known as "Ti Fwaye," for this period throughout all communes for both departments. A total of 91 cooking demonstrations were realized, with 64 in the Northeast and 27 in the Central Plateau. All participants continue to be taught the importance of incorporating the 3 food groups into their diet. Furthermore, 212 Mother Leaders (MLs) were selected in the targeted communes and trained on good hygiene and sanitation best practices. The project has made significant progress in achieving its objectives, with a total of 28,201 food vouchers distributed worth US$1,549,740 corresponding to 123,979,200 HTG in local currency. The communes of Carice, Mombin Crochu, and Vallieres that could not be served during the months of October-December received their rations during the reporting period. The PDM has revealed that an increase of 13.84% was observed in households that could do agriculture as an income-generating activity during this period.
