Abstract
The JEOP IDP response in Gedeo and West Guji zones remained a priority, with the completion of Round 5 of CY2018 and the initiation of Round 1 of CY2019. Between April 1 and June 30, 2019, Round 1 and Round 2 distributions took place, with a total of 20,866.37 metric tons of food distributed to an average of 603,324 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) beneficiaries. The maximum number of beneficiaries reached was 915,385, with 436,396 females and 95,073 female-headed households among them. The JEOP IDP response continued in Q3, with a focus on completing Round 5 of CY2018 and beginning Round 1 of CY2019. The JEOP pipeline was maintained through the receipt of vegetable oil from the August 2018 call forward, which was mistakenly recorded twice in the pipeline analysis report. However, the upcoming FY19 Q4 call forward will provide a quantity of vegetable oil that will avert a break in the JEOP pipeline. In addition, JEOP began its flexible resource transfer distributions to 4,763 transportation top-up households in Amhara, with a total of 902,840 Ethiopian Birr (approximately 31,678.60 USD) distributed to beneficiaries. The registration process for cash-in-lieu beneficiary households was delayed due to unclear beneficiary lists and poor communication to beneficiaries regarding registration dates and requirements. As a result, the cash-in-lieu distributions were postponed until October-November 2019, when it is seasonally appropriate to do so. The registration process was also prolonged in some locations due to late notification to beneficiaries of the appointed registration days and the registration requirements. The JEOP partners participated in the National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC)-led joint targeting exercise for the IDP response in Gedeo and West Guji zones. The exercise was launched in late April and was still ongoing in West Guji at the time of writing. The JEOP also played a critical role in the joint targeting exercise, which was launched for the IDP response in Gedeo and West Guji zones in strong coordination with UNOCHA and the Zonal DRM Office.
