Abstract
The activity aims to contribute to the reduction of infant and maternal mortality in Rwanda by improving the availability, quality and utilization of RMNCH and malaria services with resilience and sustainability. The Ingobyi Activity is partnering with the Government of Rwanda (GOR) to build on the country's considerable achievements, guided by national health strategies, goals, objectives and data. The activity is building on past USAID support to the health sector in Rwanda to provide a healthier, more productive future for all Rwandans. The goal of Ingobyi Activity is to contribute to the reduction of infant and maternal mortality in Rwanda. The strategic objective is to improve the utilization and quality of RMNCH and malaria services in Rwanda, in a sustainable manner. Ingobyi Activity has three Intermediate Results (IR) outlined below in the results framework. The Ingobyi Activity is a collaborative effort involving multiple stakeholders, including the Government of Rwanda, USAID, and several implementing partners. The activity is led by IntraHealth International, with sub-awardees including Akros, Ingenuity Ltd., Society for Family Health (SFH), Urunana Development Communication, World Vision Rwanda, Rwanda Association of Midwives (RAM), Rwanda Pediatric Association (RPA), and Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RSOG). The activity has a total estimated budget of $48,494,690, with $12,350,274 obligated to date. The Ingobyi Activity has made significant progress in its first quarter, with a total of $911,124 expended. The activity has also accrued an additional $680,208 in expenditures during the quarter. The Ingobyi Activity is focused on improving the availability, quality and utilization of RMNCH and malaria services in Rwanda, with a particular emphasis on building the capacity of the health system to provide high-quality services. The activity is guided by a results framework that outlines three Intermediate Results (IR), including increased equitable access to RMNCH and malaria services, improved quality of high-impact RMNCH/malaria services, and strengthened performance of the health system at central and decentralized levels. The Ingobyi Activity is working to achieve these IR through a range of activities, including training health workers, improving the availability of RMNCH and malaria services, and strengthening the capacity of the health system to provide high-quality services. The activity is also focused on improving the quality of RMNCH and malaria services, including through the use of quality improvement approaches and the standardization of services. Additionally, the Ingobyi Activity is working to strengthen the performance of the health system at central and decentralized levels, including through the provision of technical assistance and the development of district planning, reporting, and evaluation frameworks. The Ingobyi Activity has also made significant progress in its first quarter in terms of gender equality, family planning compliance, and environmental compliance. The activity has also identified several lessons learned, including the importance of building the capacity of the health system to provide high-quality services and the need for a more comprehensive approach to improving RMNCH and malaria services. The Ingobyi Activity will continue to work towards its goals and objectives in the coming quarters, with a focus on building the capacity of the health system and improving the availability, quality and utilization of RMNCH and malaria services in Rwanda.
