Abstract
The Activity seeks to reduce infant and maternal mortality in the country through sustainable interventions. The Activity is led by IntraHealth International, with sub-awardees including Akros, Ingenuity Ltd., Society for Family Health (SFH), Urunana Development Communication, World Vision Rwanda, Rwanda Association of Midwives (RAM), Rwanda Pediatric Association (RPA), and Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RSOG). The Activity focuses on improving the quality of health services at supported health facilities, including two referral hospitals, two provincial hospitals, 22 district hospitals, and 324 health centers. The interventions aim to strengthen the capacity of health workers, improve the availability and accessibility of essential health commodities, and enhance the quality of care provided to patients. The Activity has a total estimated budget of $53,291,422, with $42,491,717 obligated to date. The actual expenditure as of March 31, 2021, is $22,876,980, with the largest expenditures in the areas of Family Planning ($9,054,690), Maternal and Child Health ($8,337,652), and Malaria ($2,523,906). The estimated remaining obligated funds are $19,614,737. The Activity's objectives include improving the quality of RMNCH and malaria services, increasing the availability and accessibility of essential health commodities, and enhancing the capacity of health workers. The expected results include a reduction in infant and maternal mortality, improved health outcomes for mothers and children, and increased access to quality health services for vulnerable populations. The Activity's implementation is guided by a Technical Working Group (TWG) that brings together representatives from the Ministry of Health, IntraHealth International, and other stakeholders. The TWG provides technical guidance and oversight to ensure that the Activity's interventions are aligned with national health policies and strategies. The Activity's progress is monitored through regular reporting and evaluation, including quarterly progress reports and annual performance reports. The reports provide an update on the Activity's achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, and inform decision-making and planning for future interventions. The USAID Ingobyi Activity is a critical component of Rwanda's efforts to improve the quality of health services and reduce infant and maternal mortality. The Activity's interventions are designed to be sustainable and scalable, and to contribute to the country's long-term health development goals.
