Abstract
The Activity seeks to reduce infant and maternal mortality and the incidence of malaria by enhancing the availability, quality, and utilization of RMNCH and malaria services. The Activity partners with the Government of Rwanda to build on the country's achievements in the health sector, guided by national health strategies, goals, objectives, and data. The Activity's objectives include improving the quality of RMNCH and malaria services, increasing the availability of skilled birth attendants, and enhancing the capacity of health facilities to provide emergency obstetric and newborn care. Additionally, the Activity aims to improve the management of malaria, increase the use of insecticide-treated bed nets, and enhance the capacity of health workers to provide malaria diagnosis and treatment. The Activity has made significant progress in its first year, with a total of 2,500 health workers trained in RMNCH and malaria services. The Activity has also established 15 demonstration plots to promote sustainable agriculture practices, which have shown a 60% increase in crop yields. Furthermore, the Activity has facilitated the establishment of 324 health centers, 22 district hospitals, 2 provincial hospitals, and 2 referral hospitals. The Activity has also made progress in its technical areas, including family planning and YSRH, maternal health, newborn health, child health, malaria prevention and treatment, and community health. The Activity has implemented various interventions, including strengthening referral systems, social and behavior change interventions, gender integration, infection prevention and control, and COVID-19 preparedness and prevention. The Activity has also collaborated with USAID IPs and other stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, the Rwanda Biomedical Centre, and the Rwanda Health Communication Center. The Activity has also received support from various organizations, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund, and the World Food Program. The Activity's budget for the first quarter of FY21 was $7,882,491 for family planning, $7,287,485 for maternal and child health, $347,048 for water, $2,160,207 for malaria, $818,607 for Ebola, and $1,579,258 for COVID-19. The Activity has also estimated that it will have $8,508,621 remaining in obligated funds by the end of the Activity period.
