Abstract
The Activity seeks to reduce infant and maternal mortality in the country by promoting sustainable health outcomes. The Activity is led by IntraHealth International, with sub-awardees including Akros, Ingenuity Ltd., Society for Family Health (SFH), Urunana Development Communication, World Vision Rwanda, Rwanda Association of Midwives (RAM), Rwanda Pediatric Association (RPA), and Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RSOG). The Activity focuses on improving health outcomes in several key areas, including family planning, maternal and child health, malaria prevention and treatment, and community health. The Activity also places a strong emphasis on social and behavior change interventions, gender integration, and quality improvement. The Activity's objectives are aligned with Rwanda's national health strategy and are designed to contribute to the country's efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Activity has made significant progress in its first three years, with notable achievements in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, and malaria prevention and treatment. The Activity has also established a strong network of health facilities, including referral hospitals, provincial hospitals, district hospitals, and health centers, which are providing essential health services to the population. The Activity's implementation is guided by a robust monitoring and evaluation framework, which tracks progress against key performance indicators (KPIs) and provides regular feedback to stakeholders. The Activity also engages with a range of stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and community leaders, to ensure that the Activity's objectives are aligned with national priorities and that the benefits of the Activity are equitably distributed. The Activity's budget for the first three years totals $53.3 million, with $42.5 million obligated to date. The Activity has also established a strong partnership with the Government of Rwanda, which has provided critical support for the Activity's implementation. The Activity's success is dependent on continued support from USAID and other stakeholders, as well as the commitment of the Government of Rwanda to improving health outcomes in the country. The Activity's progress in the first quarter of FY21 was marked by significant achievements in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, and malaria prevention and treatment. The Activity's social and behavior change interventions also showed promising results, with increased awareness and adoption of healthy behaviors among the target population. However, the Activity also faced challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted health services and posed significant risks to the Activity's implementation. The Activity's management and administration are overseen by a strong leadership team, which includes a Chief of Party and a range of technical experts. The Activity's implementation is also supported by a robust monitoring and evaluation framework, which tracks progress against key performance indicators (KPIs) and provides regular feedback to stakeholders. The Activity's success is dependent on continued support from USAID and other stakeholders, as well as the commitment of the Government of Rwanda to improving health outcomes in the country.
