Abstract
The project aims to improve agricultural productivity, markets, and policy environment in the country. The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Contract AID-685-C-15-00001. The project focuses on three key outcomes: improved agricultural productivity, enhanced agricultural markets, and strengthened agricultural policy environment. To achieve these outcomes, the project implements various interventions, including farmer training programs, infrastructure development, and market linkage facilitation. The project also places emphasis on local capacity development, gender integration, climate change integration, and environmental compliance. In FY2015, the project achieved significant results in terms of agricultural productivity. The project trained over 2,500 farmers in sustainable agriculture techniques, resulting in a 60% increase in yield from demonstration plots. The project's efforts to improve agricultural markets were also notable. The project facilitated market linkage for farmers, enabling them to access better prices for their produce. The project also worked with local organizations to promote business development services, which helped farmers to improve their marketing and sales skills. In terms of policy environment, the project worked with the Government of Senegal to strengthen the agricultural policy framework. The project provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Equipment (MAER) to develop policies and regulations that support agricultural development. The project's geographic focus is on the Casamance region in southern Senegal, where agricultural productivity is low and market access is limited. The project's implementation is led by IRG, with support from local organizations and government agencies. The project's timeframes are FY2015 and FY2016. The FY2015 results highlight the project's achievements in terms of agricultural productivity, markets, and policy environment. The FY2016 expected results outline the project's plans to build on its achievements and scale up its interventions to reach more farmers and communities. Overall, the Naatal Mbay project is a critical component of the Feed the Future program in Senegal, aiming to improve agricultural productivity, markets, and policy environment in the country. The project's achievements in FY2015 demonstrate its potential to contribute to the country's agricultural development and food security.
