Abstract
The activity began on July 27, 2018, and is set to conclude on July 26, 2023. The initiative is led by IntraHealth International, with a total estimated budget of $53,291,422. The activity focuses on strengthening the capacity of the Rwandan health system, with a particular emphasis on improving the quality of care provided at the district hospital and health center levels. This is achieved through a range of interventions, including the provision of training and technical assistance to healthcare workers, the establishment of quality improvement teams, and the implementation of electronic medical records. One of the key areas of focus for the Ingobyi Activity is family planning. The initiative aims to increase access to modern family planning methods, particularly among young people and in rural areas. This is achieved through a range of interventions, including the provision of family planning commodities, the establishment of family planning clinics, and the implementation of social and behavior change communication programs. The Ingobyi Activity also places a strong emphasis on maternal and child health. The initiative aims to reduce maternal and child mortality rates by improving access to emergency obstetric care, strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers to provide high-quality maternal and child health services, and implementing quality improvement initiatives in health facilities. In addition to its focus on family planning and maternal and child health, the Ingobyi Activity also includes a significant component dedicated to malaria prevention. The initiative aims to reduce the burden of malaria in Rwanda by improving access to malaria testing and treatment, strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers to provide high-quality malaria services, and implementing insecticide-treated bed net distribution programs. The Ingobyi Activity has made significant progress in its first year, with a total of $29,515,809 expended as of September 30, 2021. The initiative has also achieved a number of key milestones, including the establishment of quality improvement teams in 22 district hospitals and the provision of training to over 1,000 healthcare workers. The Ingobyi Activity is supported by a range of stakeholders, including the Government of Rwanda, the Ministry of Health, and a number of international partners. The initiative is also supported by a range of sub-awardees, including Akros, Ingenuity Ltd., Society for Family Health, Urunana Development Communication, World Vision Rwanda, Rwanda Association of Midwives, Rwanda Pediatric Association, and Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The Ingobyi Activity has a number of key performance indicators, including the increase in the number of people using modern family planning methods, the reduction in maternal and child mortality rates, and the reduction in the burden of malaria in Rwanda. The initiative will continue to work towards these goals over the next four years, with a focus on achieving sustainable improvements in the health and well-being of Rwandan citizens.
