The USAID Ingobyi Activity is a five-year initiative aimed at improving the health and well-being of Rwandan citizens, particularly in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, and malaria prevention.

Abstract
The activity began on July 27, 2018, and is set to conclude on July 26, 2023. The initiative is led by IntraHealth International, with support from several sub-awardees, including Akros, Ingenuity Ltd., Society for Family Health, Urunana Development Communication, World Vision Rwanda, Rwanda Association of Midwives, Rwanda Pediatric Association, and Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The activity focuses on strengthening the capacity of health facilities, improving the quality of care, and enhancing the availability of essential health services. The initiative targets 2 referral hospitals, 2 provincial hospitals, 22 district hospitals, and 325 health centers across Rwanda. The total estimated budget for the activity is $55,291,209, with $54,561,717 obligated to date. The activity is divided into several technical areas, including family planning, maternal and child health, water, malaria, Ebola, COVID-19, and private sector productivity. The family planning component aims to increase access to modern family planning methods, while the maternal and child health component focuses on improving maternal and newborn health outcomes. The malaria component seeks to reduce malaria-related morbidity and mortality, while the Ebola and COVID-19 components aim to strengthen the country's response to these infectious diseases. The activity has made significant progress in the first quarter of FY23, with notable achievements in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, and malaria prevention. The initiative has also made strides in strengthening the capacity of health facilities, improving the quality of care, and enhancing the availability of essential health services. In the family planning area, the activity has achieved a 25% increase in the number of women using modern family planning methods, with a total of 12,000 women accessing family planning services during the reporting period. The maternal and child health component has seen a 30% reduction in maternal mortality rates, with a total of 150 maternal deaths averted during the reporting period. In the malaria area, the activity has achieved a 20% reduction in malaria-related morbidity, with a total of 1,500 malaria cases averted during the reporting period. The initiative has also made significant progress in strengthening the capacity of health facilities, with 80% of health facilities reporting improved capacity to provide essential health services. The activity has also made notable progress in the areas of water, sanitation, and hygiene, with 50% of health facilities reporting improved access to clean water and sanitation facilities. The initiative has also made strides in strengthening the capacity of health facilities to respond to infectious diseases, with 90% of health facilities reporting improved capacity to respond to outbreaks. Overall, the USAID Ingobyi Activity has made significant progress in improving the health and well-being of Rwandan citizens, particularly in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, and malaria prevention. The initiative continues to work towards achieving its objectives and expected results, with a focus on strengthening the capacity of health facilities, improving the quality of care, and enhancing the availability of essential health services.
