Abstract
The model categorizes these factors into four primary domains: Personnel, Social, Environmental, and Facilitator. Each domain represents a distinct set of influences that either facilitate or hinder the adoption of a safer behavior. Personnel factors encompass an individual's internal experiences, including their thoughts, feelings, and desires. These factors are critical in determining an individual's motivation to adopt a safer behavior. In contrast, Social factors involve the external opinions and actions of friends, family, and community members, which can either support or undermine an individual's decision to adopt a safer behavior. Environmental factors refer to the existing services, resources, and policies within an individual's community that can either facilitate or hinder the adoption of a safer behavior. Facilitators, on the other hand, are factors that make it easier for an individual to adopt a safer behavior, while Barriers are factors that make it more difficult. Reversals are factors that could potentially cause an individual to stop adopting a safer behavior. The model also identifies the pathways or routes through which an individual's behavior can change, known as Les Voies du Changement. This framework recognizes that behavior change is a complex process influenced by multiple factors, and that understanding these factors is essential for developing effective interventions to promote safer behaviors. The Pathfinder International model is grounded in an ecological perspective, which views behavior as an outcome of the interactions between an individual and their environment. This approach recognizes that behavior change is not solely the result of individual actions, but rather is shaped by the broader social and environmental context in which an individual lives. By understanding the complex interplay of factors influencing behavior, the Pathfinder International model provides a valuable framework for developing targeted interventions to promote safer behaviors and improve health outcomes.
