Abstract
The document is based on sound, research-based instructional practices and assumes that teaching and learning about the content outlined in the scope and sequence is based on the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model. This model begins with an explicit description of the literacy practice and an explanation of when and how it is used, followed by collaborative, guided, and independent use of the literacy practice. The scope and sequence for grade 6 focuses on the following elements: word study, reading comprehension, vocabulary, listening, speaking, language items (grammar), reading fluency, and writing convention and composition. The document considers that an academic year has 34 weeks, with 40 minutes of five periods for grade 3 to 8 and 40 minutes of six periods for grade 1 and 2 in every week. Each grade has 4 weeks of revision lessons in the whole academic year. The proposed weekly/topic lesson schedule for grade 6 is divided into themes, with each theme covering three topics/units and taught over three weeks (15 days). The reading text will be central, and the organization of contents will be thematic and integrated. The thematic tests will be used as a guide for all activities. In Week 1 of the scope and sequence for grade 6, the theme is "People and clothes," and the topic is "Greeting and introductions." The learning objectives for this week include reading words by segmenting their affixes and transferring specific information from one context to another. The week's activities will focus on word study, vocabulary, reading comprehension, reading fluency, writing composition and convention, speaking, listening, and grammar. The scope and sequence document provides a sound basis for material writers to offer guaranteed and viable content by addressing gaps in students' learning and eliminating unnecessary repetition. It also enables teachers to have clarity about the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that students will acquire in their learning and what they need to learn next. The document supports teachers' effective unit and lesson planning and enables them to maintain a developmental focus on student learning as students progress through the subject.
