Abstract
A key component of the program is a participatory approach, where adolescents are engaged in discussions and activities to raise awareness about health services and promote healthy behaviors. The program begins with an introduction to the concept of health service linkages, where adolescents are encouraged to identify different types of health workers in their communities. This includes health center staff, hospital workers, community health workers, and other professionals who provide health services. To facilitate discussions and raise awareness about health services, the program uses a participatory exercise where adolescents are asked to run to different locations based on their responses to scenarios related to health issues. The exercise is designed to promote critical thinking and decision-making skills among adolescents. The scenarios presented during the exercise cover a range of health issues, including sexual and reproductive health, malaria, and HIV/AIDS. Adolescents are encouraged to seek health services if they experience symptoms such as fever, headaches, or body aches, or if they have engaged in unprotected sex. The program emphasizes the importance of seeking health services from youth-friendly providers who can offer confidential and non-judgmental care. The program also highlights the role of community-based distribution agents and Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) in providing referrals to health centers and offering basic health services. Adolescents are encouraged to access health services at different levels of care, including community-based services and health facilities. A key aspect of the program is the emphasis on confidentiality, respect, and convenience when accessing health services. Adolescents are encouraged to seek health services from providers who can offer these qualities, and to make informed decisions about their health. The program concludes with a commitment from adolescents to seek health services when needed. Adolescents are asked to name one reason they would seek health services from a healthcare provider, highlighting the importance of promoting healthy behaviors and seeking care when necessary. The initiative aims to improve health outcomes for adolescents in rural communities by promoting awareness about health services, encouraging healthy behaviors, and providing access to youth-friendly health care providers. By engaging adolescents in discussions and activities, the program seeks to empower them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
