Abstract
The study builds on the World Economic Forum's Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) initiative, which identified several challenges, including a lack of relevant data. The initiative aims to address the "data gap" at the investee level, the lack of critical information about businesses seeking capital. To address this gap, the study developed and piloted a set of HRI information disclosures to encourage private investments in crisis-affected areas. Humanitarian and Resilience investments focus on communities with limited access to basic rights or services due to a current or potential crisis. The HRI disclosures consist of a set of questions for capital seekers to provide information on humanitarian operations and risk management, financial commitments and returns, and humanitarian impact assessment. This study tested the disclosures with 10 capital-seeking businesses, gathering feedback from both investors and capital seekers to adjust the disclosures to be more relevant to investors. The pilot focused on innovative and small or medium-sized enterprises, developing disclosures for bonds and funds but not piloting them due to the longer time required. The study aimed to address the lack of investment opportunities and the need for capacity building on organizations seeking private funding. The HRI disclosures are designed to provide investors with critical information about businesses seeking capital, promoting private investments in crisis-affected areas. The study identified several key findings, including the importance of providing investors with relevant data about businesses seeking capital.
