Abstract
The project focuses on strengthening diagnostic networks, surveillance systems, and tuberculosis diagnostic networks. Key activities include training health workers, establishing laboratory networks, and implementing electronic surveillance systems. In the first quarter of FY 2023, IDDS provided training on plague bacteriological culture to INRB staff in Goma. The program also supported the development of a national electronic surveillance system in Cameroon, which enabled real-time monitoring of disease outbreaks. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, IDDS worked with local health authorities to establish a network of laboratories for tuberculosis diagnosis. The program achieved significant milestones in the first quarter of FY 2023. In Kenya, IDDS supported the implementation of a community-based surveillance system, which led to a 25% increase in reported cases of malaria. In Tanzania, the program helped establish a national electronic surveillance system, which enabled the detection of a cholera outbreak in a remote region. IDDS also made progress in strengthening tuberculosis diagnostic networks. In India, the program supported the establishment of a network of laboratories for tuberculosis diagnosis, which led to a 30% increase in reported cases of tuberculosis. In Kenya, IDDS worked with local health authorities to implement a system for tracking antimicrobial resistance, which enabled the detection of a cluster of resistant tuberculosis cases. The program's achievements in the first quarter of FY 2023 are reflected in the data presented in Tables 1 and 2. These tables show the project outputs related to strengthening diagnostic networks and surveillance systems, respectively, and the countries that contributed to these outputs. The data indicate that IDDS made significant progress in implementing electronic surveillance systems, training health workers, and establishing laboratory networks. In addition to the program's achievements, IDDS also reported on several success stories and highlight stories in Annex B of the report. These stories illustrate the impact of the program's activities on the ground and highlight the achievements of local health workers and communities. The report also includes country monitoring and evaluation tables in Annex C, which provide detailed data on the program's progress in each country. Overall, the IDDS project has made significant progress in the first quarter of FY 2023, with achievements in strengthening diagnostic networks, surveillance systems, and tuberculosis diagnostic networks. The program's activities have had a positive impact on the ground, with increased reporting of disease cases and improved detection of outbreaks.
