Abstract
EQUIP has a long history of responding to capacity building and technical assistance needs from various countries, with a focus on improving educational quality. The program has been instrumental in designing professional development programs for Ministry of education personnel, teachers, and school directors, as well as demonstrating innovative and effective approaches to development challenges. Throughout its lifespan, EQUIP has developed a range of analytic tools, including M&E toolkits, and designed curricula for various subjects, from literacy to work readiness. The program has also established and shared research, communication, and networking capacity, enabling it to effectively address the needs of countries around the world. EQUIP's successes and lessons learned from nearly 70 countries are relevant to everyone working to improve the quality of education worldwide. EQUIP's contributions to the USAID Office of Education's Pillar Bureau for Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade (EGAT) have been significant, with the program responding to a variety of capacity building and technical assistance needs. EQUIP has developed innovative and effective approaches and analytic tools, and has established and shared research, communication, and networking capacity. The program has also made a notable impact on education decentralization and national policies, as well as addressing challenges such as unemployment among out-of-school youth. The EQUIP program is a multi-faceted initiative that serves all levels of education, from early childhood development to primary and secondary education, adult basic education, pre-vocational training, and the provision of life-skills. Activities range from teacher support in course content and instructional practices to principal support for teacher performance and community involvement for school improvement.
