Abstract
This will facilitate inclusive sustained growth and development, ensure peace and security, and provide sustainable management of the environment. The activity is implemented by Tetra Tech, in partnership with Landesa, World Resources Institute (WRI), Namati, Collaborative Decision Resources Associates (CDR), Sustainable Development Institute (SDI), and Parley. The project focuses on four key components: strengthening policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks for land governance; improving human and institutional capacity for land governance; conducting action research supporting land rights policy; and strengthening civil society, private sector, and citizen engagement in land governance. The project also involves quarterly monitoring and evaluation to assess progress and impact. In the first quarter of FY16 (October-December 2015), the project team conducted a two-day work planning and partnering meeting in Monrovia, Liberia, to review project objectives, clarify roles and relationships, and focus on developing partnerships. The meeting aimed to ensure that all stakeholders were aligned and working towards the project's goals. The project has established a Project Advisory Committee (PAC) to provide guidance and support to the project team. The PAC includes representatives from the Government of Liberia, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. The committee will play a crucial role in ensuring that the project is responsive to the needs of the Liberian people and that the project's goals are achieved. The project has also made significant progress in strengthening policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks for land governance. The project team has provided advisory and demand-driven support to the Government of Liberia in developing land policy, conducted and disseminated policy research and analysis, and developed and disseminated public information on proposed reforms. In addition, the project has made progress in improving human and institutional capacity for land governance. The project team has supported master's-level training of Government of Liberia land governance institutions, supported decentralized management and institutional capacity development, and increased awareness and capacity of Government of Liberia land governance institutions. The project has also conducted action research supporting land rights policy, which aims to inform policy and decision-making on land rights. The research will provide valuable insights into the current state of land rights in Liberia and identify areas for reform. Furthermore, the project has made progress in strengthening civil society, private sector, and citizen engagement in land governance. The project team has designed and implemented public information campaigns, strengthened private professional organizations of surveyors and land professionals, and facilitated the establishment of public-private partnerships (PPPs). The project's quarterly monitoring and evaluation report provides a comprehensive overview of the project's progress and impact. The report highlights the project's achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, and provides recommendations for future action. Overall, the Land Governance Support Activity in Liberia is making significant progress in establishing more effective land governance systems, improving equitable access to land and security of tenure, and facilitating inclusive sustained growth and development. The project's collaborative approach, technical assistance, and organizational support are key to achieving its goals and ensuring that the project's impact is sustained over time. The project's success is also attributed to the strong partnerships established with the Government of Liberia, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. The project's ability to engage with and respond to the needs of the Liberian people has been critical in ensuring that the project's goals are achieved. In conclusion, the Land Governance Support Activity in Liberia is a critical initiative that aims to establish more effective land governance systems, improve equitable access to land and security of tenure, and facilitate inclusive sustained growth and development.
