Abstract
This type of class is often found in schools with limited resources or in remote areas where access to education is limited. The Multigrade class is designed to cater to the diverse needs of students from different grade levels, with the goal of providing a more inclusive and effective learning environment. The Basa Pilipinas project, in collaboration with the Department of Education, has developed a set of materials and resources to support the teaching of Multigrade classes. These materials include Teacher's Guides, Read Aloud stories, and Leveled Readers, which are designed to be used in a two-week instructional sequence. The materials are organized into two cycles: the Even cycle and the Odd cycle, which correspond to different school years. The Even cycle includes materials for the school years 2014, 2016, 2018, and so on, while the Odd cycle includes materials for the school years 2015, 2017, 2019, and so on. Each unit of the materials is designed to be taught over a two-week period, with a focus on a specific theme or topic. The materials are intended to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of students from different grade levels, with the goal of promoting inclusive and effective learning. The Teacher's Guides provide a framework for teaching the Multigrade class, with a focus on the Even cycle and the Odd cycle. The guides include a range of activities and exercises designed to promote language learning and cultural awareness. The Read Aloud stories and Leveled Readers are designed to be used in conjunction with the Teacher's Guides, with the goal of promoting reading comprehension and vocabulary development. The materials developed by Basa Pilipinas and the Department of Education are based on a range of research and best practices in language teaching and learning. The project has drawn on the expertise of a range of stakeholders, including teachers, researchers, and community leaders, to develop a set of materials that are tailored to the needs of Multigrade classes in the Philippines. The Multigrade class is an important part of the education system in the Philippines, providing a vital service to students who may not have access to education otherwise. The materials developed by Basa Pilipinas and the Department of Education are an important resource for teachers and students, providing a framework for effective and inclusive language teaching and learning. The materials are designed to be used in a range of contexts, from urban to rural areas, and from public to private schools.
