Abstract
The project aims to provide supplementary outlines for English classes in grades 1 and 2. The outlines are designed to cater to the needs of multigrade classes, where two or more different grade levels are taught by one teacher in a single classroom. The project is based on the Department of Education's K-12 Curriculum Guide in English, July 2015. The outlines are organized into two cycles, one for even years and another for odd years. The even cycle includes topics such as Mother Tongue, English, and Filipino, while the odd cycle includes English and Filipino for grades 1-2 and English and Filipino for grades 2-3. The instructional pattern for a grades 1-2 multigrade class involves alternating between grade 1 and grade 2 teacher's guides. For example, in week 21, the grade 2 teacher's guide is used, and the topic is "Pipo, the Clown" with a theme of "Interesting Things About My Culture." The grade 1 pupils will refer to the grade 1 and 2 English teacher guides for discussion and activities. The outlines also include leveled readers and multigrade notes to cater to the needs of the grade 1 and 2 pupils. The teacher is encouraged to add other activities to achieve the expected competencies of each grade level. Remedial sessions are also recommended to reteach lessons that pupils had difficulty with. The project references several sources, including a handbook for teachers of multi-grade classes by UNESCO and a profile of multigrade schools in the Philippines by SEAMEO INNOTECH. The outlines are designed to be used in conjunction with the grade 1 and 2 English teacher guides. The contents of the outlines include topics such as "Interesting Things About My Culture," "Places in My Community," and "Things I Can Do to Help My Community." The outlines are organized into weeks, with each week covering a specific topic and theme. The project aims to provide a comprehensive and flexible learning resource for multigrade classes in the Philippines. The outlines are designed to cater to the needs of the pupils and to provide a supportive learning environment for teachers.
