Abstract
The program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by the Institute of International Education (IIE). The program's primary objective is to support the academic and personal development of students from underrepresented groups in Egypt. Since the inception of the LSP Scholarship Program in 2015, 210 students have been successfully recruited, selected, and awarded scholarships. The students are enrolled in three cohorts and are studying at three private universities in Egypt: the American University in Cairo (AUC), the Arab Academy for Sciences, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), and the British University in Egypt (BUE). The total number of LSP-Private awardees has increased from 195 to 210, including 12 students with disabilities. The program has a strong focus on gender equality, with female representation in the cohorts ranging from 48% to 63%. The program also aims to increase the number of students with disabilities, with 12 students with disabilities selected for the program. The students are studying a variety of fields, including communication and mass media, economics, and nursing. The program's implementation is ongoing, with the first cohort of students already in their academic studies. The program's progress is monitored and evaluated regularly, with a focus on academic and personal support, study abroad opportunities, and leadership development. The program's leadership in action activities include leadership enrichment sessions, service learning projects, and student-led conferences. The program's reporting and monitoring and evaluation activities are also ongoing, with a focus on tracking the progress of the students and evaluating the program's effectiveness. The program's reporting includes quarterly progress reports, which provide an update on the program's activities and achievements. The program's geographic focus is on Egypt, with a focus on supporting students from underrepresented groups in the country. The program's timeframes are quarterly, with a focus on reporting progress and achievements on a regular basis. The program's recommendations are based on the evaluation of the program's effectiveness and the needs of the students. Overall, the Local Scholarship Program (LSP) – Private Universities is a significant initiative that aims to support the academic and personal development of students from underrepresented groups in Egypt. The program's focus on gender equality, disability inclusion, and leadership development makes it a unique and valuable contribution to the education sector in Egypt.
