The Local Scholarship Program (LSP) – Private Universities was established to increase job readiness among disadvantaged students in Egypt.

Abstract
The program aims to develop a skilled and gender-balanced cadre of professionals who can apply and impart new knowledge and skills in priority areas. The program is implemented by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Since its inception in May 2015, the LSP has successfully recruited, selected, and awarded scholarships to 210 students. The students have been placed at three host universities: the American University in Cairo (AUC), the Arab Academy for Sciences, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), and the British University in Egypt (BUE). As of the reporting period, 209 students are currently enrolled in the program, including 12 students with disabilities. The LSP program has made significant progress in the second half of FY2020. A total of 95 Academic Support Meetings were conducted for Cohort 1 students, 112 meetings for Cohort 2 students, and 154 meetings for Cohort 3 students. Additionally, 42 Cohort 1 students graduated from the program, and 6 Cohort 1 Nursing students graduated and started their residency year. A total of 161 students are currently enrolled in the program, with 84 females and 77 males. The program has also implemented various enrichment activities, including Study Abroad interviews for 12 Cohort 3 students, re-entry workshops for 16 students, and Leadership in Action Enrichment sessions attended by 53 students. Furthermore, 36 Mock interviews were conducted for Cohort 1 students, and 37 Individual Career Guidance Sessions were conducted for Cohort 1 students. The program has also provided Technical Mentoring Sessions to Cohort 1 students, with 4 individual sessions and 3 group sessions. The LSP program has also made progress in terms of student outcomes. A total of 48 Cohort 1 students graduated this year, with 6 students studying Nursing and currently doing a 12-month Residency at two hospitals. The program has also seen an increase in the number of students with disabilities, with 12 students currently enrolled in the program. The program's goal is to develop a skilled and gender-balanced cadre of professionals who can apply and impart new knowledge and skills in priority areas, and the progress made in the second half of FY2020 is a step towards achieving this goal. The program's implementation has been successful, with a total of 209 students currently enrolled in the program. The program has also seen an increase in the number of students with disabilities, with 12 students currently enrolled in the program.
