Abstract
Department of State. The program aims to provide scholarships to students from Egypt to pursue undergraduate studies in the United States. The program was initially awarded in 2010 with funding for 150 scholarships, and subsequent modifications in 2011 and 2014 provided additional funding for 50 and 50 additional scholarships, respectively. As of the second quarter of FY2019, a total of 192 students from cohorts 1, 2, and 3 have graduated from the program. One cohort 1 student is currently doing his residency and will continue to be supported by the program through September 2019. Out of the 192 graduated students, 139 are employed. The program has achieved a 100% graduation rate for cohort 3 students, with all 27 students completing the program and graduating. The academic performance of LOTUS students is monitored closely by the program. As of the second quarter of FY2019, the status of cohort 1 and 2 students is as follows: one cohort 1.2 graduate is continuing his residency, while the remaining students have completed their studies. Cohort 3 has achieved a 100% graduation rate, with all 27 students graduating. Cohort 4 students are currently in their fourth year of undergraduate studies, with 48 students enrolled in the program. The program provides various support services to its students, including career counseling, mentoring, and internships. Two students studying Marine Navigation do not have a GPA this quarter as they were completing their assignments at sea as part of their graduation requirement. Another student traveled to Spain this quarter as part of her Erasmus Scholarship, awarded to her through AASTMT. The program's alumni have made significant contributions to their communities and the workforce. Out of the 192 graduated students, 139 are employed, with many holding leadership positions in their respective fields.
