Abstract
The program aims to provide scholarships to students from Egypt to pursue higher education in the United States. Since its inception, 210 students have been successfully recruited, selected, and awarded scholarships. The students are enrolled in three cohorts and are studying at the American University in Cairo, the Arab Academy for Sciences, Technology and Maritime Transport, and the British University in Egypt. The program has made significant progress in increasing the number of students with disabilities. Cohort 3 has 11 students with disabilities, including 3 females and 9 males, bringing the total number of students with disabilities to 12. The program has also achieved a higher female representation in Cohort 2, with 64% of the students being female. The overall female representation in the program is 54%, with 113 female students out of a total of 210. The program has also made progress in recruiting students from various governorates in Egypt. The top five governorates with the highest number of students are Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Assiut, and Beheira. The program has also achieved a good balance between male and female students, with 97 male students and 113 female students. The program provides various forms of support to its students, including academic and personal support. The students receive English language support, and those who are at risk academically receive additional support. The program also provides opportunities for students to participate in study abroad programs, leadership in action activities, and career-related activities. The program has faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including academic and study abroad challenges. However, the program has been able to adapt to these challenges and continue providing support to its students. The program's monitoring and evaluation system has been effective in tracking the progress of the students and identifying areas for improvement. The program's leadership in action activities have been successful in providing students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills. The program's career guidance and job placement training program have also been effective in helping students prepare for their future careers. Overall, the Local Scholarship Program – Private Universities has made significant progress in achieving its goals and providing opportunities for students from Egypt to pursue higher education in the United States.
