Manual for Stock Management of Health Supplies in South Africa

The project aims to strengthen equitable access to quality health services for all South Africans. The project's main objective is to improve access to health services through ensuring the availability of appropriate drugs whenever and wherever they are needed and in the most cost-effective manner. The project focuses on improving the drug supply management system in South Africa. The system is based on the principles of the National Drug Policy, which aims to improve access to health services through ensuring the availability of appropriate drugs. The policy is guided by two important principles: a commitment to improving the health status of the South African population and a commitment to achieving equitable access to Primary Health Care Services. The project's implementation is supported by the Health Department of the Province of the Eastern Cape, particularly Ms. Mandisa Hela, Deputy Director for Pharmaceutical Services. The project has trained over 600 clinical staff in the district level, who have adopted the stock card system. The project team has also received valuable advice, input, and support from the MSH Drug Management Program, Washington D.C. The project's manual provides guidance on the implementation of the stock card system. The manual covers various aspects of the system, including the drug supply management cycle, checking the storage area, and managing stock using the stock cards. The manual also provides information on how to calculate the average monthly consumption, how to calculate the stock level, and how to order supplies. The project's goal is to improve the drug supply management system in South Africa and to ensure that all South Africans have access to quality health services. The project's implementation is supported by the Health Department of the Province of the Eastern Cape and the MSH Drug Management Program.
