Abstract
In the Província de Nampula, a mapping exercise was conducted to identify the location of key interventions by the SCIP project in the 14 districts of Nampula. The objective was to use geographic coordinates from GPS and a small questionnaire to gather information. The methodology involved training students from the level superior as mappers, visiting all Community Leadership Councils (CLCs) in the project area, and using GPS coordinates from cell phones with Android systems to map the location of CLCs, Youth Agricultural Clubs, water sources, and other relevant features. The mapping exercise revealed that 65% of CLCs had a record book, with 584 out of 902 CLCs having a caderno de registos. The distribution of CLCs with record books varied across the 14 districts, with the highest percentage found in Nacala Velha (67%) and the lowest in Nampula Cidade (0%). The percentage of CLCs with record books per district ranged from 35% in Angoche to 65% in Meconta and Memba. The mapping exercise in Nampula provided valuable insights into the distribution of CLCs with record books across the 14 districts. The results can inform future interventions and support the development of more effective strategies for improving agricultural productivity and food security in the region.
