Abstract
The program is part of the USAID Youth Advance initiative in Liberia, which aims to improve the lives of youth in the country. The module is divided into four sessions, each focusing on a specific aspect of resilience. Session 1, "Getting to Know My Mind," introduces participants to the concept of resilience and helps them identify their personal strengths and weaknesses. Activities in this session include setting group boundaries, recognizing feelings, and understanding the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Session 2, "Developing a Healthy Mind," delves deeper into the topic of mental health and well-being. Participants learn about the importance of self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-motivation in maintaining good mental health. Activities in this session include building flexible and positive thinking skills, managing anger, and becoming aware of personal warning signs. Session 3, "Building Skills to Support My Mind," focuses on teaching participants practical skills to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. Activities in this session include mindfulness, progressive muscle relaxation, and anger management. Session 4, "Designing My Wellness Plan," helps participants apply the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout the module to create a personalized wellness plan. This plan serves as a roadmap for maintaining good mental health and resilience in the face of challenges. The module also includes a pre-module self-assessment, which helps participants identify their strengths and weaknesses in areas such as maintaining privacy and confidentiality, recognizing feelings, and managing anger. A post-module self-assessment is also included to help participants evaluate their progress and identify areas for further improvement. Throughout the module, participants are encouraged to engage in activities, discussions, and role-playing exercises to reinforce their learning and build their resilience. The module is designed to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of different groups, and trainers are provided with a range of tools and resources to support their delivery. The USAID Youth Advance initiative aims to improve the lives of youth in Liberia by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. Module 1: Foundations of Resilience is an important part of this initiative, equipping participants with the resilience and mental health skills they need to thrive in the face of challenges.
