Abstract
The programs aim to rehabilitate and reconstruct schools, health facilities, and water and sanitation (WatSan) schemes in the affected areas. In Swat District, a total of 79 schools were tendered, with 77 work orders issued. Of these, 49 schools are currently under construction, while 28 have been completed. However, four schools have been dropped from the program, and one school has been rescinded due to land sliding in the backyard. In Dir Lower District, 20 schools were tendered, with 19 work orders issued. Ten schools are currently under construction, while eight have been completed, and seven are functional. In Dir Upper District, five schools were tendered, with work continuing on two schools. Three schools have been dropped, and the tendering process for the fifth school could not be finalized due to accessibility issues and high transportation costs. In Buner District, 13 schools were tendered, with 13 work orders issued. Eight schools are currently under construction, while five schools of FARA-II have been completed and handed over to the Education department. The WatSan schemes in Buner District have commenced, with work on nine schemes underway. However, drilling for one scheme failed at a depth of 132 feet, and the Department needs to identify a new location. The completion date for the hand pumps has been revised to September 2013, as per the agreed timeline with USAID. In Swat District, design and cost estimates for 10 DWSS, including 120 hand pumps, have been cleared by the DRRC and Administrative Approval has been accorded. A PIL is being constituted for implementation of the work. The health facilities in the affected areas are also being rehabilitated, with work continuing on five fully damaged Basic Health Units (BHUs) and six partially damaged BHUs. The scope of work for the Tehsil Complex Kabal has been revised due to available funds, and estimates are being prepared for submission to PaR. The programs are being implemented in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Education and Health departments, and the Department of Rural Roads and Rehabilitation (DRRC).
