Abstract
Punjab has consistently ranked high in various health surveys and studies, but the government remains committed to further improving health outcomes and eventually providing universal healthcare. The RMNCH+A initiative recognizes the interdependence of various components of the continuum of care, emphasizing the need to ensure health across all life stages. This approach requires a robust and realistic action plan that takes into account the existing health dynamics in the state. The plan outlines governance measures, including supportive supervision, monitoring and evaluation, and program reviews, to ensure the quality of services. The plan was prepared by a task group under the chairmanship of Dr. K. K. Talwar, with Dr. Vinod Paul, Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, spearheading the effort. Dedicated officers of the Health Department Punjab, led by Dr. Karanjit Singh, worked tirelessly on this initiative. The plan's success will depend on its effective implementation at all levels, from the state to the district and down to the remotest village and beneficiary. The plan's focus on RMNCH+A is crucial, as it addresses the health needs of women, newborns, children, and adolescents. By providing equal focus to all life stages across the continuum of care, the plan aims to improve health outcomes and reduce disparities. The government's commitment to implementing this plan is evident in the Principal Secretary's message, which expresses confidence in the Punjab Health Department's ability to lead and drive change in the country. The plan's implementation will require a coordinated effort from various stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policymakers, and community members. By working together, the government aims to achieve significant improvements in maternal and child health outcomes, ultimately contributing to the state's reputation as a leader in healthcare.
