Abstract
The Ghana Health Service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the USAID/Ghana Evaluate for Health (E4H) project, has made significant progress in reducing preventable deaths. Improvements in health policies, health systems, and practices have contributed to this progress. However, the number of preventable deaths amongst unborn and newborns remains too high, and the nation must continue to focus efforts to eliminate these deaths. The Ghana National Health Research Dissemination Symposium 2015 was held on May 27-28, 2015, at the Executive Conference Centre, GIMPA, Accra. The symposium provided a platform for researchers, policymakers, planners, educators, healthcare professionals, and managers to share and discuss research findings on child and maternal health. The event was attended by a diverse group of presenters, including NGOs, UN organizations, and the Ghanaian research community. The symposium focused on several key themes, including providing leadership and governance, organizing health services, developing and utilizing human resources, financing and provisions of social protection, developing and organizing health information, innovations and health technologies, and community ownership, participation, and decision systems. The event featured oral presentations, keynote speakers, and guest speakers, who shared their expertise and experiences in addressing child and maternal health challenges in Ghana. The symposium aimed to bring together research evidence and policy decisions to inform the elimination of preventable child and maternal deaths in Ghana. The event provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in addressing these challenges. The Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health, and USAID/Ghana E4H project have invested in three Health Research Centres that conduct high-quality research and produce valuable evidence to inform policy decisions and interventions. The symposium was made possible by the support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The event was organized by the USAID/Ghana E4H project, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health. The symposium was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, planners, educators, healthcare professionals, and managers.
