Abstract
The program is implemented by Winrock International, with subcontractors including Connexus, Digital Green Foundation, and European Cooperative for Rural Development (EUCORD). Major counterpart organizations involved in the program include public and private sector extension and service providers, Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD). The program aims to build the capacity of private extension service providers to deliver extension and advisory services to value chain stakeholders. This is achieved through Component 1, which focuses on building the capacity of private extension service providers. Component 2 strengthens linkages between agricultural research institutions, agro-allied companies, the public and private extension providers, and agricultural value chain stakeholders. Implementation of the program has made significant progress, with over 2,500 farmers receiving training in sustainable agriculture techniques during the first year. The program has also made progress in integrating cross-cutting issues and USAID forward priorities. Stakeholder participation and involvement have been key components of the program, with engagement from FMARD, State Government, PIND, NAERLS, PACE, associations, research and universities, and other organizations. Management and administrative issues have been addressed, and lessons learned have been documented. Planned activities for the next quarter include continued implementation of the program's objectives and further integration of cross-cutting issues and USAID forward priorities.
