Abstract
The clinic is one of ten facilities run by the Foundation for the Development and Education of Haitian Families, founded in 1990. Martissant delivers essential health services to over 800 patients per month at the center and over 2,500 in the community. The health center emphasizes community participation and mobilization in the delivery of its services, allowing it to expand its reach to the farthest corners of its sprawling neighborhood. The health center provides a range of key services and activities, including child health, maternal health, family planning, and HIV/AIDS services. Child health services include providing a full set of vaccinations for children under 12 months, with over 11,700 children receiving vaccinations per year. Maternal health services include providing 3 or more antenatal visits to more than 2,700 women each year, supporting 29 traditional birth attendants through the provision of safe delivery kits and monthly training meetings, and ensuring postnatal visits via home visits made by community health workers. Family planning services are also provided, with over 6,100 women receiving services each year. These services include a method mix of pills, injectables, condoms, or implants. HIV/AIDS services include counseling and testing, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, and antiretroviral treatment. The health center offers HTC services to 1,500 people per month and provides ARV treatment for more than 320 individuals per year. In addition to services provided at the health center, community outreach activities are also conducted. These include 60 rally posts per month, offering family planning, child weighing, and immunizations. Twenty mobile clinics are conducted per month, offering first prenatal visits and referrals to the center, family planning, HIV testing, and child health services. Home visits by polyvalent community health workers are also conducted to increase awareness, community education, and referral to the institution and rally posts. The health center is supported by USAID's Services de Santé de Qualité pour Haïti Centre-Sud (SSQH-CS) program, with Pathfinder International serving as the implementing partner. The budget for FY15 was $140,700, and the duration of USAID funding is from 2004 to the present. The health center is staffed by 3 doctors, 5 nurses, 9 nursing assistants, 2 lab technicians, 25 polyvalent community health workers, 29 traditional birth attendants, and 8 administrative staff.
