Abstract
The program is organized into four major components, each with unique characteristics and requiring a different mix of skills and resources. These components include Institutional Support to the Office of the Coordinator, Late Stage Transaction Support, Support for Small-Scale Projects, Mini-Grids, and Rural Electrification, and Regulatory and Institutional Strengthening and Policy. PATRP's work is delivered through a system of Country Implementation Plans, which promote a holistic approach to the program's objectives in each country and are aligned with the three Pillars of the Power Africa Roadmap. The program has established Country Implementation Plans for 15 countries, including East Africa, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, West Africa, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Southern Africa, Angola, Malawi, and Zambia. The program's progress is measured against targets set forth in the PATRP Work Plan for FY 2018. As of Q2 FY 2018, the program has achieved significant results, including the identification of new anticipated on-grid and off-grid connections. The program anticipates a further uptick in results during the remainder of the year, particularly in Tanzania and West Africa. However, the program's ability to reach the FY 18 target will largely depend on the initiation of Round 2 of the Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia, which is currently projected for Q4 FY 18. The program has made significant progress in various countries, including Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ghana, Liberia, Senegal, Angola, and Zambia. In Uganda, the program has supported the development of solar home systems, mini-grids, and rural electrification projects. In Rwanda, the program has supported the expansion of solar home systems and off-grid connections. In Tanzania, the program has supported the development of mini-grids, rural electrification projects, and the expansion of existing mini-grids. The program has also made significant progress in West Africa, including Ghana, Liberia, and Senegal. In Ghana, the program has supported the development of solar home systems and pico-solar technical assistance. In Liberia, the program has supported the development of solar home systems. In Senegal, the program has supported the expansion of rural electrification programs. The program's progress is also reflected in the number of new grid and off-grid connections anticipated. As of Q2 FY 2018, the program has identified 199,990 new off-grid connections and 12,810 new on-grid connections. The program anticipates a further uptick in results during the remainder of the year, particularly in Tanzania and West Africa. Overall, the Power Africa Transactions and Reforms Program has made significant progress in promoting electricity access and economic growth in Africa. The program's Country Implementation Plans and Country Implementation Plans have been instrumental in achieving the program's objectives, and the program's progress is reflected in the number of new grid and off-grid connections anticipated.
