Abstract
The program is organized into four major objectives: Institutional Support to the Office of the Coordinator, Late Stage Transaction Support, Support for Small-Scale Projects, Mini-Grids, and Rural Electrification, and Regulatory and Institutional Strengthening and Policy. PATRP's work is delivered through a system of Country Implementation Plans, which promote a holistic approach to the program's objectives in each country. These plans are aligned with the three Pillars of the Power Africa Roadmap and Power Africa 2.0. The program has established Country Implementation Plans for 15 countries, including East Africa, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, West Africa, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Southern Africa, Angola, Malawi, and Zambia. The program's progress is reported quarterly, with the Q3 FY 2018 report highlighting key results and challenges. The report indicates that the program has made significant progress in achieving its targets, with a total of 121,058 new anticipated direct connections identified during the quarter. However, the program is unlikely to reach its FY 2018 target of 1,093,861 new anticipated direct connections due to delays in the initiation of Round 2 of the Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia. The report also highlights the progress made in individual countries, with notable achievements in Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. In Kenya, the program has supported the development of microgrids, including the Ubuntu Power (Mutaroni Village Microgrid) and the GLP Series C Fundraising. In Rwanda, the program has supported the development of solar home systems through partnerships with BBOXX and the One Acre Fund. In Tanzania, the program has supported the development of microgrids, including the Lupali Small Hydropower Project and the Electrification of Communities in Chamwino District. The report also highlights the progress made in off-grid connections, with a total of 180,394 actual direct connections recorded during the reporting period. The program remains on track to reach its FY 2018 target for off-grid and on-grid new actual connections. The report highlights the progress made in individual countries, with notable achievements in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, East Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, and other countries. The program's progress is monitored through a range of indicators, including the number of new grid and off-grid anticipated direct connections, the number of new grid and off-grid actual direct connections, and the number of new grid and off-grid cumulative actual connections. The program's progress is also monitored through a range of support activities, including monitoring and evaluation, power Africa tracking tool, power Africa private sector partners, strategy documents, gender integration, and environmental and social due diligence. Overall, the PATRP Q3 FY 2018 report highlights the program's progress in achieving its targets and promoting electricity access and trade in Africa. The report also highlights the challenges faced by the program, including delays in the initiation of Round 2 of the Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia. The program's progress will continue to be monitored through a range of indicators and support activities, with a focus on achieving its FY 2018 targets and promoting sustainable development in Africa.
