Abstract
The reserve is comprised of two adjacent properties, Corocito and Los Musos, which cover a total area of 188 hectares and 2,225 square meters. The properties are owned by Sociedad Inversiones El Corocito Ltda., a Colombian company with a registered address in Bogotá. The reserve is situated in a region with a tropical savanna climate, characterized by high temperatures and rainfall throughout the year. The geology of the area is composed of sedimentary rocks, while the geomorphology is characterized by flat plains and gentle slopes. The soils in the area are primarily composed of clay and silt. The reserve is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including various species of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers. The fauna in the area includes mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, many of which are endemic to the region. The reserve's ecosystem is also home to a variety of aquatic species, including fish and other aquatic animals. The reserve's productive system is primarily based on agriculture, with crops such as coffee, cocoa, and fruit trees being grown on the properties. The reserve also has a strong social component, with a focus on community engagement and education. The reserve's management plan aims to balance conservation and restoration efforts with sustainable use of the resources. The reserve's management plan is based on three main approaches: conservation, restoration, and sustainable use. Conservation is the primary strategy, aimed at preserving the reserve's ecosystem and biodiversity. Restoration efforts focus on rehabilitating degraded areas and promoting the recovery of native species. Sustainable use involves the management of resources in a way that ensures their long-term availability while minimizing environmental impacts. The reserve's management plan is guided by the "Guía para la elaboración de planes de manejo de reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil," a document developed by a consortium of organizations, including Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia, Asociación Red Colombiana de Reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil (RESNATUR), Corporación Autónoma Regional del Valle del Cauca (CVC), and Asociación Red de Reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil del Macizo Colombiano (SERANKWA). The reserve's management plan includes a range of activities aimed at conserving and restoring the reserve's ecosystem, as well as promoting sustainable use of the resources. These activities include habitat restoration, species reintroduction, and community engagement and education programs. The plan also includes measures to address potential threats to the reserve, such as deforestation, habitat fragmentation, and climate change. Overall, the Reserva Natural de la Sociedad Civil Corocito is an important protected area in Colombia, providing a safe haven for a diverse range of flora and fauna. The reserve's management plan aims to balance conservation and restoration efforts with sustainable use of the resources, ensuring the long-term viability of the ecosystem and the well-being of the local community.
