Abstract
The reserve is situated in a region with a rich biodiversity, featuring a variety of flora and fauna. The reserve's terrain is characterized by a mix of flat and sloping areas, with a climate that ranges from tropical to subtropical. The reserve's flora is composed of 358 species of plants, distributed across 91 families and 237 genera. The most common plant families found in the reserve include Fabaceae, Poaceae, Rubiaceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Melastomataceae. The reserve's fauna is also diverse, with a variety of species of insects, birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish. The reserve's ecosystem is characterized by a high level of endemism, with many species found only in this region. The reserve's biodiversity is also influenced by the presence of indigenous communities in the surrounding area. The reserve's management plan aims to conserve and restore the reserve's natural resources, while also promoting sustainable use of the area. The management plan for the reserve is based on three main approaches: conservation, restoration, and sustainable use. The plan emphasizes the importance of social cohesion and community involvement in the conservation and management of the reserve. The plan also takes into account the presence of indigenous communities in the surrounding area and aims to promote equitable access to the reserve's resources. The reserve's management plan is guided by the "Guía para la elaboración de planes de manejo de reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil," a document developed in 2009 by a group of organizations, including Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia, Asociación Red Colombiana de Reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil (RESNATUR), Corporación Autónoma Regional del Valle del Cauca (CVC), and Asociación Red de Reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil del Macizo Colombiano (SERANKWA). The plan's objectives include conserving and restoring the reserve's natural resources, promoting sustainable use of the area, and fostering social cohesion and community involvement in the conservation and management of the reserve. The plan also aims to promote equitable access to the reserve's resources and to support the development of the surrounding communities. The reserve's management plan is based on a four-phase approach, which includes characterization and analysis of the reserve's situation, ordering and zoning of the reserve, elaboration of the plan's document base, and review and follow-up of the plan. The plan's implementation will be carried out through a series of activities, including training and capacity-building programs for reserve staff and community members, establishment of monitoring and evaluation systems, and promotion of sustainable use of the reserve's resources. Overall, the Reserva Natural de la Sociedad Civil Rancho Paravare is an important protected area in Colombia, featuring a rich biodiversity and a unique ecosystem. The reserve's management plan aims to conserve and restore the reserve's natural resources, while also promoting sustainable use of the area and fostering social cohesion and community involvement in the conservation and management of the reserve.
