Abstract
The course focuses on career development strategy, action planning, and personal growth. Key attributes required to break the "glass ceiling" in one's industry include being a visionary, having a sense of mission and purpose, and possessing strong technical ability. Other essential traits include razor-sharp focus, risk-taking, self-confidence, integrity, a strong work ethic, and a long-term perspective. Additionally, individuals who are gritty, have a success routine, and a drive for success are more likely to achieve their goals. A strong network, leadership skills, and the ability to partner with one's bosses are also crucial for career advancement. Resourcefulness, an integrated life, and continuous learning are also essential for success. Furthermore, individuals who are bias for action and have a track record of performance are more likely to achieve their career goals. The course emphasizes the importance of developing a personal work identity, understanding required competencies for current and future roles, and clarifying both short and long-term career goals. Identifying mentors within the industry and expanding current networks through participation in subject-matter based associations or groups are also key components of the course. Participants are encouraged to harmonize their career narrative across professional digital platforms, such as LinkedIn, and to be mindful of their online presence. The course also emphasizes the importance of being present, open to new ideas, and respectful of other views. By the end of the course, participants are expected to develop clarity about themselves and the requirements needed to deliver results in their current role, articulate a clear line of sight on how to achieve their career goals, and learn practical ways to leverage opportunities within their industry.
