Abstract
The team consisted of Liana Suleymanova, Eljo Mucaj, Alis Mustafa, Ergent Pire, Eni Almeta, and Pranvera Guxho. Expertise was provided by Grania Mackie, an international expert in gender analysis, and by Erald Lamja, a local expert in economic development. The methodology used for the analysis included the selection of sectors, limitations of the research work, and the context of the study. The context of the study included the national context for gender equality and the general situation in Pogradec. The analysis of the value chain was based on a general evaluation using criteria and the SWOT analysis. The selected value chains included the artisanal work, traditional food products, and milk production. The actors in the value chain included farmers, producers, and consumers. The findings of the research work and the opportunities for empowering women in the selected value chains were presented in the plan of action. The recommendations for intervention in Pogradec were based on the analysis of the value chains and the opportunities for empowering women. The analysis of the value chain of artisanal work showed that women were underrepresented in decision-making positions and had limited access to training and credit. The analysis of the value chain of traditional food products showed that women were overrepresented in the production process but had limited access to markets and credit. The analysis of the value chain of milk production showed that women were underrepresented in decision-making positions and had limited access to training and credit. The opportunities for empowering women in the value chain of artisanal work included the development of training programs and the provision of credit. The opportunities for empowering women in the value chain of traditional food products included the development of markets and the provision of credit. The opportunities for empowering women in the value chain of milk production included the development of training programs and the provision of credit. The plan of action included the development of training programs for women, the provision of credit, and the development of markets. The recommendations for intervention in Pogradec included the development of a gender-sensitive policy, the provision of training programs for women, and the provision of credit.
