Abstract
The workshop aimed to promote peaceful recreational activities and create safer environments for children. CIMIENTOS has been promoting events to exchange war toys for other types of games that enable children to play and entertain themselves without resorting to violence. Community management training was conducted in February for seven Neighborhood Associations (ASOJUNTAS) from various municipalities in the Catatumbo Region and Bajo and Medio Atrato Region. The training aimed to increase the participation of ASOJUNTAS in public decision-making, train them in social oversight, and manage funds available for implementing small infrastructure projects. This initiative is expected to strengthen civil society organizations and improve the provision of public services. CIMIENTOS delivered 19 BASES projects in various municipalities, including Acandí, Carmen del Darién, Unguía, Convención, San Juan del Cesar, Valledupar, Dibulla, and Ciénaga. These projects improved physical infrastructure for the provision of healthcare, education, and peaceful coexistence through playgrounds and sport fields. The projects benefited 9,706 people, with USAID contributing $258,000, equivalent to 41% of the funding. The remaining funding came from beneficiary communities and local governments. One of the projects delivered in the rural area of Valledupar tackled improvements to healthcare and education simultaneously. A new healthcare post was built, along with four sanitary units, an auditorium, and the refurbishment of a local school (Escuela Guaymaral). This project demonstrates CIMIENTOS' commitment to creating safe environments for the recreation of children and improving public services. The implementation of these projects and workshops demonstrates CIMIENTOS' efforts to strengthen civil society organizations, create safe environments for children, and improve the provision of public services. The organization's initiatives aim to promote peaceful coexistence and provide opportunities for community development and growth.
