Abstract
The program focuses on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, family planning, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and nutrition services. Sub-purpose 1 of the program targets increased access and utilization of quality HIV services. Key interventions include identifying and enrolling HIV-positive pregnant women on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for 95% viral load suppression, improving eMTCT-Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) integration, and supporting and tracking HIV-exposed infants. The program also focuses on boosting HIV treatment adherence support, scaling up and supporting pediatric and adolescent ART, and strengthening HIV defaulter tracing. In the first quarter of FY2019, the program initiated 7,174 new clients on ART, boosted HIV treatment adherence support, and continued mentorship on the implementation of new ART guidelines. The program also scaled up and supported pediatric and adolescent ART, strengthened HIV defaulter tracing, and increased viral load uptake and suppression. Additionally, the program implemented the Differentiated Care Model (DCM) and improved HIV treatment stakeholder collaboration. Sub-purpose 2 of the program targets increased access and utilization of focused maternal, neonatal, and child health, family planning, WASH, and nutrition services. Key interventions include strengthening county and sub-county MNH service quality and coordination, boosting ANC attendance, increasing safe deliveries within Nairobi County, and improving HCW attitude through training and coaching. The program also aims to improve uptake and provision of postnatal care (PNC) at target health facilities and scale up gender-sensitive approaches to maternal and neonatal health. In the first quarter of FY2019, the program strengthened county and sub-county planning and supportive supervision for child health, improved facility child health service provision, and strengthened knowledge and uptake of infant and child health services at the household- and community-level. The program also strengthened county and sub-county family planning coordination and service delivery, improved access and quality of facility-based family planning services, and implemented interventions to reduce the risk of HIV among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). The Afya Jijini Program has made significant progress in increasing access to quality healthcare services in Nairobi County. The program's focus on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, family planning, WASH, and nutrition services has improved health outcomes and strengthened health systems in the region.
