Abstract
Initial assessments conducted in April 1 – June 30, 2016, identified a need for enhanced reading instruction and increased access to gender-sensitive teaching materials. To address this, the ASPIRE project implemented a reading program that provided training for teachers and students in Standards 4-8. The program focused on increasing access to gender-sensitive teaching materials, particularly for girls. The program showed a 27% increase in reading skills among girls in upper primary school. This improvement was attributed to the increased engagement and accountability of communities, the private sector, and the public in supporting reading instruction. The program also emphasized the importance of increasing access to gender-sensitive teaching materials, especially for girls. Adoption of positive sexual and healthcare-seeking behaviors among youth 10-19 increased.
