Abstract
The project is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and implemented by AECOM. The project's goal is to improve the business environment, increase access to finance, and enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs in Egypt. Component A: Entrepreneurship Skills and Opportunities focuses on stimulating entrepreneurship among women and youth. Result A.1 aims to stimulate entrepreneurship among women and youth through training and capacity building programs. The project has established a network of business incubators and accelerators to provide support to entrepreneurs. Result A.2 aims to improve the availability and accessibility of entrepreneurship services, with a focus on business incubators and accelerators. Component B: Financial and Non-Financial Services aims to improve the availability and accessibility of effective and efficient business development services (BDS). Result B.1 focuses on improving the availability and accessibility of BDS, while Result B.2 aims to improve the availability and accessibility of financial products and services. Non-financial services include capacity building, business advisory services, and market research. Financial services include loans, credit guarantees, and other financial instruments. Component C: Integration of MSMEs in Value Chains aims to integrate MSMEs into progressive value chains. Result C.1 focuses on selecting value chains for MSME integration, while Result C.2 aims to strengthen management information systems (MIS) to improve MSME access to selected value chains. The project also aims to improve MSME understanding of market opportunities and strengthen sector/industry associations on backward and forward linkages. Cross-cutting activities implemented by the project include gender and youth, business enabling environment, implementation of grants component, communication, marketing, and information and communication technology. The project has established a network of business advisory councils to provide support to entrepreneurs. The project has also established a system of one-stop shops to provide a range of services to entrepreneurs. The project has made significant progress in achieving its goals. The project has established a network of business incubators and accelerators, and has provided training and capacity building programs to entrepreneurs. The project has also improved the availability and accessibility of entrepreneurship services, and has increased access to finance for MSMEs. The project has also strengthened the management information systems of MSMEs, and has improved their understanding of market opportunities. The project has also implemented a range of cross-cutting activities, including gender and youth, business enabling environment, and information and communication technology. The project has established a network of business advisory councils, and has established a system of one-stop shops to provide a range of services to entrepreneurs. The project's midterm evaluation has shown significant progress in achieving its goals. The project has increased the number of entrepreneurs, and has improved the competitiveness of MSMEs in Egypt. The project has also improved the business environment, and has increased access to finance for MSMEs. The project's success has been attributed to its focus on entrepreneurship skills and opportunities, financial and non-financial services, and integration of MSMEs in value chains. The project's future plans include continuing to strengthen the development of entrepreneurship and MSMEs in Egypt.
