The objective of the mission was to improve the organizational capacities of the ONIC, with a focus on the provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, and Maniema. The mission was led by the 3rd Vice-President of the ONIC, accompanied by experts from MCSP, Cuso International, and a Coopérant International. The mission activities were conducted in the following order: a pedagogical meeting with the Provincial Council of North Kivu on April 15, 2018; courtesy visits to the Provincial Authorities on April 16, 2018; a training workshop for members of the Provincial Council, urban, zonal, and cellular of the Order of Nurses of North Kivu from April 16 to 17, 2018; consultations with nurses, members of the Order of Nurses, from April 18 to 19, 2018; and an evaluation meeting on April 20, 2018. During the pedagogical meeting, the President of the Provincial Council of the Order of Nurses welcomed the delegation and presented the situation of the city. The 3rd Vice-President of the ONIC presented the members of the delegation, including Madame Léonie from the ONIC RDC, Lucie from MCSP, Gaston and Medard from Cuso International, Frank from the Coopérant International, and Theodore and Baruani, respectively President of the ONIC South Kivu and Maniema. The mission team conducted courtesy visits to the Provincial Authorities, including Dr. Laurent KIRIKUGHUNDI, Medical Director of the Provincial Division of Health, and Dr. Marcel KAMBAMBU, Provincial Minister in charge of Health. The visits focused on presenting the visitors to the authorities, presenting the organizations and their visions, and presenting the Terms of Reference (TDR) of the mission to solicit the authorities' involvement in the success of the activities. The atelier of formation was opened on April 16, 2018, by the Chef de la Division Provinciale de la santé, Dr. Laurent KIRIKUGHUNDI, who emphasized the need for a strategic plan to improve the profession of nursing. Madame Lucie from MCSP presented the TDR, which aimed to conduct a participatory diagnostic of the ONIC at all levels and to involve nurses in improving the health of mothers and children. The TDR was presented with two objectives: to conduct a participatory diagnostic of the ONIC at all levels and to involve nurses in improving the health of mothers and children. The approach used was individual interviews with nurses, interviews with partners, discussions with political and administrative authorities, and external discussions. Madame Lucie from MCSP also presented her organization, MCSP, its missions, and values. Mr. Gaston Galamo from Cuso International presented the organization's mission and values, emphasizing the importance of sustainable economic knowledge, gender equality, social inclusion, and access to quality healthcare. Madame Léonie, 3rd Vice-President of the ONIC, presented the history of the Order of Nurses since 1952, highlighting the need for nurses to be considered professionals rather than auxiliaries. The mission team also discussed the partnership between the ONIC and MCSP, with a focus on improving the health of mothers and children, conducting an auto-evaluation of the ONIC's strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities, and elaborating a detailed operational plan. MCSP emphasized the importance of strengthening the nursing organization to improve community health, particularly in remote areas exposed to major risks. The Coopérant Franck presented the concept of organizational development, emphasizing the need for each member of the organization to have necessary information about the health of their organization. The mission team concluded that the ONIC has a crucial role to play in improving the quality of care, particularly in remote areas, and that strengthening the nursing organization is essential for improving community health.
