Abstract
with a subcontract via Pathfinder/Evidence to Action. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), PROSANIplus aimed to prevent a gap in health service provision in areas supported by USAID through its Integrated Health Project (PROSANI) of five years that ended in 2015. The two main components were direct support for service delivery activities and strengthening of the health systems. The service component included increased utilization, with a strong impact, of family planning, maternal, neonatal, and child health, nutrition, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WSH) services, as well as adoption of healthy practices in targeted health areas. The health systems strengthening component included improved implementation of selected policies, promotion of the program, and decision-making, particularly at the provincial level. The project aimed to create better conditions for strengthening the availability and use of health services, products, and practices, with a strong impact, for more than 31 million people in nine provinces of the DRC with 168 targeted health areas (an increase of 115% compared to the 78 health areas supported by PROSANI).
